HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's basketball team wrapped up play inside the Timken Gymnasium on the campus of Wooster College defeating non-conference foe Westminster 70-40.
The Panthers were led in the contest by the freshmen duo of
Taylor Heath (Fairland, Ind.) and
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) with 11 points each. Benter also added eight rebounds, while Heath dished out eight assists. Sophomore
Addie Gardner (Anderson, Ind.) added a team-high and career best 17 points.
The first quarter would see Hanover surge ahead as an 8-0 run midway through the frame put HC on top 21-10. The momentum carried into the second stanza as Heath hit a three-pointer with 5:39 to play to propel HC on top 34-16. At the half, Hanover held the 38-25 lead as sophomore
Addie Gardner (Anderson, Ind.) netted the Panthers final blow of the opening stanza.
The second half would see Hanover continue to pour it on as a Benter jumper in the lane pushed the difference to 45-25. Hanover added a 10-0 run later in the third quarter that blew the game wide open, 57-30.
The final quarter would see HC push the difference to as much as 37 following a junior
Kiera McCloskey (Powell, Ohio) three-pointer at the 3:40 mark, 67-30. The Panthers went on to secure the convincing 70-40 win.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 28 when they take on Centre as part of their home opener. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.
