Box Score ANDERSON, Ind. – The Hanover women's basketball team captured a dominating 80-62 victory at Anderson on Friday evening.
The Panthers were led in the contest by senior
Savannah Courtney (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) with a team-high 24 points. Teammate, sophomore
Anna Bauer (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 17 points, while freshman
Skylar Sahatjian (Prospect, Ky.) netted 11 points.
The first period saw Anderson claim the early lead when a Panther 9-0 run over a two minute span propelled them out in front 13-6. However, the excitement didn't last long as the Ravens were able to cut the deficit to 16-14 when Courtney delivered back-to-back scores that halted the charge. Sahatjian delivered the final blow of the quarter as she connected for a three-pointer that gave HC the 22-19 advantage.
In the second stanza, Hanover built on their lead using another run paced by Sahatjian to push the difference to 31-21. Anderson responded with a run of their own to once again cut the deficit to 31-30 with just under five minutes before the half. But the Panthers remained poise as freshman
Kiara Crabtree (Franklin, Ind.) delivered a three-pointer for the Blue and Red that gave them the 40-37 lead.
The second half opened as a back-an-forth battle with neither team gaining an edge when a Panther 9-0 run blew the game wide open, 49-38. The defense was the deciding factor for Hanover allowing only six points in the period to claim the 57-43 advantage.
The Blue and Red would go on to outscore Anderson 23-19 in the final period for the 80-62 victory.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they welcome Anderson to Collier Arena for Senior Day. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
