HANOVER, Ind. – The women's basketball team begins prep for the 2021 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Panthers, the seven seed, take on Rose-Hulman, the 10 seed, on Saturday, Feb. 27 as part of round one competition. The tournament seeding was based on a blind draw conducted by the league office.
LAST MEETING: These two teams last met on Feb. 22, 2020 with Hanover reigning victorious, 71-52. The Blue and Red were paced in the contest by junior
Lexi Riggles (Danville, Ind.) with 11 points, including a 3-for-5 mark from three-point. As a team, Hanover shot an impressive 48.3 percent from the floor with 11 three-pointers.
2020 TOURNAMENT: The 2020 HCAC Tournament saw the Panthers advance to the Championship game after defeating rival Franklin as part of the semifinals. Hanover entered the contest winners of 11 straight games. They also posted a perfect 9-0 mark at home that carried into the early parts of the 2021 season where they pushed the home record to 11 straight.
HCAC STATISTICS: Senior
Savannah Courtney (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) enters the weekend as one of the top scorers for the Blue and Red. The senior currently ranks fifth among league competition averaging 14.2 ppg. She also sits fifth in rebounds (7.4) and seventh in assists (2.7). As a unit, the Panthers rank second among HCAC opponents in scoring (67.3), third in field goal percentage (37.9), and fifth in rebounds (37.3).
