HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover softball team suffered an early season set back in non-conference action with Hope on Saturday afternoon. Hanover dropped game one in extra innings 5-2, before falling in the night cap, 10-8.
Game one saw Hope claim the early lead as they were able to plate a run in the top of the fifth inning. However, the Panthers responded in the bottom of the sixth as senior
Brittney Ralston (Lexington, Ind.) singled to right center scoring sophomore
Katherine Dickinson (Francisco, Ind.).
Neither team was able to get the job done in regulation when Hope erupted in the eighth inning plating four runs to push the difference to 5-1. The Panthers looked to respond as Ralston again provided a clutch hit that plated the game's final run in the bottom half of the inning. Senior
Lily Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) got the call to the circle in game one pitching a complete game allowing just five hits with a game-high seven strikeouts.
The night cap saw Hope surge ahead to the 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning when the Panthers responded. Freshman

Nikki Bridgers (Florence, Ky.) to send Hanover out in front 4-3.
But Hope remained hot at the plate scoring three more runs to reclaim the 6-4 advantage in the top of the second inning. Hanover refused to give up as freshman
Emily Adams singled to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring Hilgenhold. Beurman continued to carry the momentum as she reached on a Flying Dutchmen error that scored another Panther runner. The final strike of the inning came off the bat of Ralston that saw Hanover regain the 7-6 advantage.
Hope again deemed clutch at the dish using a four run fifth inning to capture the 10-8 victory. Hanover returns to action on Sunday, March 14 when they welcome Defiance in non-conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
