Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's basketball team welcomed no. 3 ranked Transylvania to Collier Arena on Wednesday evening in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, dropping the contest 84-60.
Hanover was led by senior
Liz Tynan (Columbus, Ind.) with a team-high 11 points, while junior
Callie Wilder (North Vernon, Ind.) added nine points.
The Pioneers used sharp shooting to capture the early advantage when Tynan stole the momentum with a pair of back-to-back jumpers. Freshman
Taylor Heath (Fairland, Ind.) made her way into the scores column as Hanover began to find the wrinkles in the Transylvania zone defense. However, the Pioneers used a 7-0 run to push the difference to 20-8 before a senior
Lanette Blume (St Anthony, Ind.) old fashion three-point play cut the first quarter deficit to 24-14.
Transylvania continued their hot shooting in the second frame extending the difference to 35-16 when freshman
Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) picked up a steal on the defensive end that set up Heath for a three-pointer. But the nationally ranked Pioneers deemed too much capturing the 51-26 lead at the break.
Freshman
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) opened the second half strong for the Blue and Red as she hit a three-pointer just seconds into the frame before providing her second deep ball of the evening at the 6:18 mark sparking a Pioneer timeout, 63-41. However, the Pioneers never looked back using their balanced attack to remain perfect on the season and secure the victory.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, January 22 when they travel to Bluffton. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
