Defensive effort prevails in 0-0 draw with Rose-Hulman

HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers (9-4-4 overall, 7-0-2 HCAC) and the Fightin' Engineers of Rose-Hulman squared-off as part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale with the no. 1 seed on the line Wednesday afternoon. The two teams battled to a 0-0 draw, earning Rose-Hulman the regular season title.

The Fightin' Engineers controlled play for the early moments of the opening half monopolizing the ball when senior Brendan Gallagher (Louisville, Ky.) made a strong push that was denied by the Rose-Hulman defense.

Both team's continued to battle with neither team giving a productive look at frame when Rose-Hulman fired a shot in the 28th minute that was denied by a one hand save from junior Luciano Salemi (Indianapolis, Ind.).

Hanover rallied behind him, cranking up the intensity with sophomore Joel Yann (Louisville, Ky.) getting a look on goal just inside the 18-yard box that was saved by the Rose-Hulman keeper.

Salemi came up huge once more in the second half as the Fightin' Engineers pressured the right side of frame before the Panthers were able to clear the deflected ball in the 52nd minute.

The play quickly ensued with Hanover trying to break the Rose-Hulman defensive line as they adjusted their offensive attack to apply more pressure but ultimately fell unsuccessful plying to a 0-0 draw.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 2 when they compete as part of the semi-final round of the HCAC Tournament hosted at the Soccer Complex.
