Defensive struggles doom costly for Panthers

HANOVER, Ind. – On a chilly Sunday afternoon, the Panthers welcomed Denison to Kops-Bedel Stadium dropping the doubleheader 12-2, 15-6.

GAME ONE
Fifth year Lily (Compton) Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) got the start in game one pitching three complete innings allowing seven runs on eight hits.

The Big Red surged ahead using a three run first inning and a three run second inning to capture the 6-0 advantage.

The Panthers would steal one run back in the bottom of the third inning as Compton charted the RBI scoring junior Kensie Bradley (Greenfield, Ind.), 6-1.

But the excitement was short lived as Denison tacked on two more runs in the next half inning to blow the game wide open.

Hanover added its final run in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior Lexi Garloch (Salem, Ind.) reached on a Big Red error that plated sophomore Ava Hilgenhold (Tell City, Ind.). Denison would go on to claim the victory in six innings.

GAME TWO
After falling behind 1-0, the Panther offense erupted. Freshman Dani Steward (Shelbyville, Ind.) paced the charge in the bottom of the second inning as she doubled down the left field line scoring both Compton and freshman Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.), 2-1. Junior Katherine Dickinson (Francisco, Ind.) scored the final run of the inning as she reached home on a Denison wild pitch.

Hanover plated two more runs in the third inning as Hutchison reached home off a Big Red error followed by a Steward RBI, 5-1.

But Denison came storming back scoring four unearned runs to reclaim the 6-5 advantage.

Beaman deemed clutch once more as she hit a beautiful ball down the right field line to knot the game at 6-6.

However, Denison got the final say plating five runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh inning in rout to the win.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, April 2 when they open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action with Defiance. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
