HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers celebrated senior day on Sunday afternoon recognizing
Lily (Compton) Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) in a doubleheader with Mt. St. Joseph. The senior celebrated the afternoon surpassing 500 career strikeouts as the Panthers swept MSJ, 2-1 and 9-7.
GAME ONE
The opening contest turned into a pitchers dual early as neither team was willing to give an edge when MSJ broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning following a Panther mishap, 1-0.
However, freshman
Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.) came through clutch in the bottom of the fourth inning as she roped a ball over the left field fence to knot the contest 1-1.
She would deem clutch once more in the bottom of the seventh inning. Freshman
Mallorie Fultz (Greenfield, Ind.) became the Panthers first base runner with a single to shortstop before junior
Kensie Bradley (Greenfield, Ind.) singled up the middle putting two runners on. Beaman handled the rest with a walk-off RBI to right center, 2-1.
Compton picked up the win in the circle pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Mt. St. Joseph pounced quickly in game two using a three run first inning to surge ahead.
However, the Panthers refused to be tamed as freshman
Dani Steward (Shelbyville, Ind.) provided the big stick in the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded, the freshman doubled to center field plating three runs, 6-4.
The back-an-forth battle continued as MSJ reclaimed the lead in the top of the third inning before a MSJ mishap in the bottom half of the inning tied the contest, 7-7.
Junior
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.) picked up her first hit of the contest in the sixth inning as she added the go-ahead RBI. Hanover added one more run to win 9-7.
Beaman got the start in the circle securing the sweep with six strikeouts.
Hanover returns to action on Thursday, May 5 when they compete as part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
