HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover (9-7-2 overall) bowed out of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament after sudden death penalty kicks with Rose-Hulman, 1-1 (4-3).
Hanover finished the contest with 17 shots, five of which landed on frame. Senior
Luciano Salemi (Indianapolis, Ind.) played a fantastic game in frame charting five saves through 110 minutes of action.
Rose-Hulman struck first in the contest finding the back of the net in the 28
th minute for the 1-0 advantage.
The Hanover offense got off to a slow start in the first half attempting just three shots to the FIghtin' Engineers eight.
However, the second half saw the Panthers hit the gas pedal as they found the equalizer in the 47
th minute with freshman
Louan Seveno (Vannes, France) recording the blow.
The Panthers registered one final look at frame to end regulation with sophomore
Patricio Campos (Cdmx, Mexico) tallying the blow.
After a nail-biting double overtime, Hanover and Rose-Hulman prepared for what was intense penalty kicks. Hanover got the first attempt with the RH keeper making a huge save. The fightin' Engineers claimed the one pk advantage when Salemi charted a clutch save on their second attempt.
With everything locked at 3-3 the final Rose-Hulman kicker approached the box and placed a shot just outside the outstretched hand of Salemi for the win.
With the win, Rose-Hulman advances to the HCAC Tournament finals to be played Saturday.
