RICHMOND, Ind. – The Panthers (2-1 overall, 1-0 HCAC) used a huge second quarter to shoot past the Quakers of Earlham 75-59.
Hanover landed three in double figures including junior
Grace Bezold (Convington, Ky.) with a double-double charting 21 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore
Kylah Lawson (Columbus, Ind.) added 11 points while junior
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) netted 10 points.
The first quarter saw the Panthers get off to a slow start allowing the Quakers to claim the 9-4 lead. However, Bezold paced a 10-0 run that saw HC capture the 14-9 advantage.
The momentum was just what Hanover needed as they were able to string together a double digit run in the second quarter as Bezold once again reigned victorious in the paint to propel HC in front 27-14.
The scoring frenzy ensued as sophomore
Lily Ernstes (North Vernon, Ind.) closed out the first half for the Blue and Red with a runner in the paint that saw Hanover capture the 31-20 halftime difference.
Hanover pushed the lead to as many as 47-28 in the third quarter behind Lawson who showed great success at the free throw line. Benter secured the rest sending the Panthers into the final frame with the commanding 54-36 lead.
Despite Earlham outscoring Hanover in the final frame 23-21 the Blue and Red claimed the HCAC contest 75-59.
Hanover returns to action Monday, Nov. 20 when they welcome Centre to Collier Arena at 7:30 PM.
