TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Hanover (4-4 overall, 3-0 HCAC) remained perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action defeating Rose-Hulman on the road, 84-54.
Hanover used a balanced attack landing five in double figures including game leader junior
Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) with 19 points. Junior
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) added 17 points while junior
Kady Clancy (Scottsburg, Ind.) netted 13 points and the duo of senior
Taylor Heath (Fairland, Ind.) and sophomore
Lily Ernstes (North Vernon, Ind.) added 10 points apiece.
The Panthers stampeded the Fightin' Engineers off the opening tip-off claiming the 11-2 lead following a layup by Bezold at the 7:27 mark. The surge continued as the Blue and Red captured their first double digit lead with 3:24 on the clock as Ernstes capped a Heath steal, 18-7. Hanover closed out the quarter on top 24-12.
The second frame saw Rose-Hulman chip away at the Hanover difference cutting it to 28-22 when Bezold hit a runner in the lane. The basket would help propel Hanover back to a double digit advantage. Freshman
Reagan Martin (Spencer, Ind.) put an exclamation point on the opening half draining a three-pointer as time expired, 42-26.
Rose-Hulman used some halftime adjustments to cut the deficit to 49-42 at the 4:36 mark in the third frame but Hanover remained poise closing out the frame with the 57-43 difference.
The rest was history as the Blue and Red out scored the Fightin' Engineers 27-11 in the final frame for the convincing 84-54 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 16 when they travel to Mt. St. Joseph. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
