HANOVER, Ind. – Junior
Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) joined the 1,000 point club as Hanover (11-6 overall, 9-1 HCAC) dominated Earlham in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 79-39.
Bezold becomes just the 15th player in program history to surpass the 1,000 point mark. She finished the afternoon with a game-high 21 points. Junior
Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) added 11 points with seven rebounds.
Hanover surged ahead 9-0 paced by Bezold. The junior helped guide the Panthers to the 23-12 first quarter lead netting nine of her 21 total points.
The red hot offense shot into the second quarter extending their lead as sophomore
Kylah Lawson (Columbus, Ind.) paced an 8-0 run that saw HC capture the 36-17 difference. With all the momentum, sophomore
Lily Ernstes (North Vernon, Ind.) netted a runner in the lane that propelled HC into the half with a commanding 41-24 advantage.
The second half saw another Panther run this time led by Bezold to claim their largest lead to date, 55-25. The rest was history as Hanover went on to out score Earlham in the final frame 19-6 en route to the win.
Hanover finished the contest with 11 Panthers in the scores column.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they travel to rival Franklin. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
