ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Panthers opened the 2024-25 season with a victory over Sewanee as part of the Webster Tournament, 94-59.
After a slow start that saw the two teams exchange baskets, sophomore
Sammy Berman (Independence, Ky.) connected for back-to-back jumpers giving Hanover some momentum. However, Sewanee could keep pace as they netted the final shot of the first period to cut the difference to 20-17.
Hanover opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run behind a Berman layup and a senior
Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) free throw, 25-17. The senior began to heat up as she found a jumper at the 7:04 mark followed by a senior
Kady Clancy (Scottsburg, Ind.) jumper that saw the lead reach double digits. The Panthers entered the half leading 40-28.
Bezold had a big third quarter for the Blue and Red. She picked up a steal and a fast-break layup, followed by a layup in the lane, to give HC the 48-34 advantage. With all the momentum, the offensive continued to fire on all cylinders, as a Berman jumper propelled Hanover in front 67-38 through three quarters.
Hanover outscored Sewanee in the final frame 27-21 to claim the 94-59 victory and advance to the Webster Tournament finals.
