DANVILLE, Ky. – Hanover (5-1 overall) knocked off the Centre Classic host on Saturday afternoon 63-55 with a strong opening performance.
The first period was all Hanover as the Panthers dominated the host Centre with an 11-0 run paced by senior
Kady Clancy (Scottsburg, Ind.). The Blue and Red continued to be all offense as a Bezold layup at 1:48 pushed the difference to 17-9. Sophomore
Sammy Berman (Independence, Ky.) called last call in the opening frame nailing a pull up jumper, 21-9.
Hanover extended the lead to as many 30-16 after Bezold produced another duce in the paint. Centre began to develop an offense as they closed out the half with a key score that saw the Colonels cut it to 34-27.
Hanover refused to surrender the momentum, as senior Bezold stepped up big, scoring six straight points to keep HC out front. Berman helped in the effort, adding a last-second score to send the Panthers into the final frame leading 49-43.
Berman kept scoring pace in the fourth quarter with a quick shot in the paint and a jumper to extend the difference back to double digits, 59-48. Bezold would go on to sink free throws to secure the Centre Classic sweep.
