Men's Soccer Drops Game Two VS Centre

Box Score Louisville, KY - Hanover found themselves back in Lousiville again this weekend, this time for a neutral-site contest vs the Colonels of Centre College. The Panthers, after winning last years match up 2-0, would find themselves on the wrong side of the win/loss this time around.

The first period was full of adversity for HC as the officials handed out eight fouls to the Panthers. Centre applied non-stop pressure, forcing the Hanover defensive unit to exhaust more effort early on. Centre struck early on in the period, scoring their first goal around the eight minute mark, as Alec McCallister found Finnegan Deem-Ranzetta. The Colonels stayed on the attack form start-to-finish in the first half of play, and would ultimately go up 2-0 in the thirty-eighth minute on a goal by Tyler Smith.

The second period of play was a much more contested half of play. The Panthers came out of the break embracing the challenge ahead of them, flying around the field trying to mount the comeback. Hanover, doing their best to keep the pressure on the Centre defense, would have three more corner kicks in the second period, but could not capitalize on their opportunities near the net.

Centre would respond with an attacking possession of their own, notching their final goal of the contest as Drew Davidson scored on an assist from Jafet Figureoa in the sixty-sixth minute.

HC, with limited time left in the game, continued to play as hard as they had been all evening. Their consistent effort would eventually pay off, as fifth-year senior defender Clayton Anderson would navigate thru the Centre defensive lines and find the back of the net unassisted in the seventy-fourth minute.

The Panthers would ultimately lose 3-1, ending up on the other side of the two-goal margin from last year. Coach Wilko and the Panthers are back on the prowl next week in Westerville, OH as they take on the Cardinals of Otterbein University Friday September 6th at 5:00PM EST.
