Hanover, IN - The Hanover College mens soccer team hosted the Eagles of Asbury University today in a humid late-afternoon match-up.
For HC, first half of action was all about feeling out their opponent. The Panthers possessed the ball well early on, applying pressure across the entire field. Hanover out shot Asbury 8 shots to 0, forcing the Eagles' goalkeeper to work early and often, tallying 5 total saves.
The first half went on to end in a stalemate at 0-0, leaving both teams feeling restless going into halftime.
Period number two would go on to be a much more exciting half of play in terms of scoring. The first goal would come off of a free kick from about 25-yards out as Panther junior
Patricio Campos put one past the keeper in the bottom-right corner, giving HC the lead at 1-0 at twelve minutes in.
Despite being out-shot by wide margin once again, Asbury found a way to stay in the game. In the seventy-eight minute of play, the Eagles would find their first goal thanks to a deep ball put on net by AU midfielder Pascal Muller.
With the game now tied at 1-1 and the clock nearing the final ten minutes, Asbury was able to once again send a ball from deep on net. The Eagles senior midfielder Alexis Petatan was able to find open teammate Ryan Kim for another 30+ yard bomb. HC ultimately fell in the contest, final score of 2-1, Asbury.
The Panthers will be back in action next Saturday, September 28th, at Anderson University to take on the Ravens in a 3:30PM EST match-up.
