PLAY-BY-PLAY
In the first frame the two teams became locked in an HCAC battle. Berman gave Hanover an early lead of 15-10 off a jumper in the lane. But the Lions refused to be tamed using the free-throw line to knot the score. Freshman
Jalynn Brooks (Erlanger, Ky.) propelled the Panthers into the second quarter with a 23-21 advantage.
Mount St, Joseph controlled much of the frame taking the lead at the 9:00 minute mark with a three-pointer. The lead continued to be passed back and forth when Brooks deemed clutch once more. The contest remained tied at the half following an MSJ three-pointer, 37-37.
The Panthers used a strong third quarter to create some distance. Bezold was the clutch hand hitting a pair of back-to-back blows. Benter found success at the free throw line that had the Blue and Red leading 55-53 at the three minute mark.
The lead finally reached double digits midway through the final quarter as a Clancy three-pointer and a Benter layup saw them on top 72-59. Clancy secured the win at the free throw line helping them claim the 82-76 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 when they host Berea at Collier Arena. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
