PREVIEW: Women's Basketball to Open HCAC Tournament Play with Berea

HANOVER, Ind. – The no. 3 seed Hanover women's basketball team will tip off the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, hosting no. 6 seed Berea.
 
THE HCAC TOURNAMENT MATCH-UP:
No. 8 seed Bluffton at no. 1 seed Transylvania, 4 PM
No. 7 seed Rose-Hulman at no. 2 seed Mt. St. Joseph, 4 PM
No. 6 seed Berea at no. 3 seed Hanover, 3 PM
No. 5 seed Franklin at no. 4 seed Anderson, 5 PM
 
TICKET INFORMATION:
Admission to all rounds of the tournament - $10 for adults.
Admission is free for children under 11 and all students/faculty/staff from HCAC institutions (School IDs required)
No pass lists are permitted for HCAC Tournaments.
 
THE MATCH-UP: (All Stats Based on the Two Game Series)
Hanover and Berea square off for the third time this season with the series tied 1-1 overall. This season marks the first in the league for the Mountaineers and their first appearance in the HCAC Tournament.
 
Hanover claimed the road match at Berea on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with a score of 61-43.
 
Berea defeated the Panthers inside Collier Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 71-69.
 
Senior Grace Bezold (Covington, Ky.) enters the contest averaging a series-best 23.5 ppg and shooting 45 percent from the field.
 
Senior Katherine Benter (Brownstown, Ind.) also averages double-digit scoring at 20.0 ppg. She leads the series in rebounds at 10.5 rpg.
 
Berea is paced by Lynkayla James averaging 17.0 ppg and a team-high 10.0 rpg. She leads the series shooting 73 percent from the floor.
 
Jayden Merriweather enters the contest averaging 16.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg.
 
HCAC STATISTICS: (Based on All of the 2024-25 Contests)
Hanover leads the HCAC in points per game, averaging 73.3 and first in field goal percentage at 43.3.
 
They rank second in win margin at 8.7.
 
Bezold leads the league in scoring (23.2) and rebounds (9.3). She also ranks third among NCAA Division III athletes in field goals made (228) and sixth in field goals attempted (482).
 
Sophomore Sammy Berman (Independence, Ky.) sits atop the HCAC in steals per contest (2.8).
