Hanover Surges in the Second Quarter to Beat Franklin

Franklin, IN - The Hanover College women's lacrosse team traveled to Franklin, IN today to take on the Grizzlies in their second HCLC contest of the 2025 season.

The Grizzlies came out and scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes of action, and increasing their lead to 2-0 about halfway through the first. HC responded in the final few minutes of the first quarter with goals from freshman attackman Mallory Mahin and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Madden, tying things up at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.

Franklin would start the scoring off again in the first couple minutes of the second quarter, only to be halted by a barrage of Panther goals. The Panthers put together seven minutes of smooth transitions and patient offense, resulting in five straight unanswered goals. The first two came from freshman attackman Quinn Cherry who scored back-to-back goals in under a minute, giving the Panthers their first lead of the day at 4-3. Senior midfielders Abby Mensing and Anissa Weber kept things rolling for the girls and combined for three consecutive goals, assisted once by freshman midfielder Alysha Baker.

Hanover lead the Grizzlies heading into the halftime break, 7-3, winning the turnover and draw control battles as well.

HC came out in the second half feeling confident and poised, ready to lock in their first win of the 2025 campaign. The Grizzlies did their best to stifle to momentum of the Panthers by scoring first once again. Hanover wouldn't give way though as senior midfielder Abby Mensing beat her one-on-one match-up once more to put the Panthers back up by four. After five minutes of solid back and forth action, freshman attackman Mallory Mahin found the back of the net once again just before heading into the fourth quarter of action.

Hanover closed out the fourth quarter strong by scoring the first and last goal of the quarter, thanks to two man-up possession goals from senior midfielder Abby Mensing and freshman attackman Mallory Mahin - this marks Mahin's first career hat trick as well.

The Panthers went on to win the contest, defeating the Grizzlies 11-6 in regulation, marking their first win of the 2025 season as well as Head Coach Ashlie Bobb's first career win as as a Panther - congratulations to Coach Bobb and the girls on their well-earned victory, and the many more that will come!
