Lexington, KY - The men's soccer team played their in their first of two games in the Transylvania Tournament, against the Purple Raiders from University of Mt. Union (OH). HC entered the contest 1-0-1 after beating Centre College 2-0 and tying with Spalding University 2-2 in the Spalding tournament, last weekend.
The Panthers came out strong, possessing well early, and dominating the stat sheet. HC lead the Purple Raiders in shots (4), saves (1), corner kicks (2), and managed fewer fouls (4 to 6). Senior forward
Omar Dizdar scored the lone first half goal for the Panthers in the twenty-third minute of action, and the Panthers coasted into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Mt Union put up a much tougher fight, responding to the 1-0 deficit in the first minute and forty seconds of the second half and tying things up at 1-1 with forty-four minutes to go.
The game would come down to a final corner kick by the Purple Raiders in the eighty-ninth minute, and the Panthers were on the unlucky end of a well-placed header, falling 1-2 in the final minute of regulation.
Hanover takes the field again tomorrow, in Lexington, against Marietta College at 1:00PM EST.
