The 2021-22 academic year will be Jim Hautman’s 11th overall as an assistant track & field coach at Hanover College.
Hautman, who has over 20 years of experience coaching throwing events, has been a vital reason for Hanover’s recent success. In his time with the Panthers, Hautman has led 13 women’s throwers to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championships.
In 2013, Hautman's women's throwers accounted for 37 of the team's 116 points to win the HCAC Indoor title. The women later added 46 of the 179 points for the squad's outdoor championship in 2013. Overall, the HC women's athletes he has coached, currently lay claim to all of the indoor and outdoor school throwing records.
Over the past nine seasons, the Hanover women’s team has never finished outside the top four at either the HCAC indoor or outdoor championships, while also winning a total of eight league titles.
The men have also steadily improved under Hautman’s watch, as the men went from a 10th place finish in the team standings of the HCAC outdoor championship in 2011-12, to a top four finish in each of the past five seasons.
While coaching at the high school level, Hautman coached the sixth-best discus thrower in Ohio prep history, a three-time state champion, and multiple state qualifiers.
Hautman is a 1979 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. During his time at Notre Dame, Hautman was a member of the football team, where he played on the offensive line. He was also a member of the 1977 Notre Dame football team that won a national championship.
