Dan Thurston will be back for his second season with the Hanover baseball coaching staff. Last season Coach Thurston worked with outfielders and helped Coach Conner with the pitching staff. In 2020, Coach Thurston will also serve as a Mental Game Coach.
Coach Thurston has over 25 years of baseball coaching experience including being the Head Coach at Madison Consolidated High School, Assistant Coach at MCHS and Shawe Memorial High School, and various travel ball coaching experience with the Indiana Bats, Edgewood Bulldogs, Indiana Bandits, Indiana Bulls and the Cincinnati Flames. Thurston also owned and operated the Indiana Rawlings Tigers Baseball Club. Thurston has coached or trained several players who have gone on to compete at the collegiate and pro levels including: Trey Thurston (Franklin College), Ryan Thurston (Western Kentucky/Toronto Blue Jays Organization), Zack Brown (Kentucky/Milwaukee Brewers Organization), Drew Ward (Washington Nationals Organization), Troy Montgomery (Ohio State/Los Angeles Angels Organization), Curtiss Irving (Ohio State), Austin Schultz (Lewis University), Tommy Wagner (Cornell), Kevin Rex (Harvard), Shawn Corso (West Virginia), Parker Maddox (Ohio University), Cooper Trinkle (Indiana), Grant Trinkle (Kentucky), Brady Linkel (Ohio University).
Thurston played his collegiate baseball for Hall of Fame Coach Dick Naylor at Hanover College. Thurston was a key member of the pitching staff for the Panthers in the mid 1980’s which included the 1986 Hoosier Buckeye Collegiate Conference Champions.
A native of Mooresville, Indiana, Coach Thurston is a retired police officer from the Madison Police Department. He served for 24 years and was Chief of Police for over 5 years. Thurston is now employed with the John Jones Auto Group. He and his wife, Jackie, have three children, Trey (28), Ryan (25) and Trisha (21). He and Jackie reside in Madison, Indiana.
