Barrett wins twice in season opening match at IU-Southeast

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Hanover men's tennis team opened its season Sunday afternoon, but fell at IU-Southeast, 6-3.

Highlighting play for the Panthers was junior Brent Barrett (New Palestine, Ind.). The junior started his third campaign at HC with two victories, including a 7-6, 7-6 win in the No. 3 singles match.

Barrett and sophomore Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) teamed up in the No. 3 doubles spot, where they won by a count of 8-4.

Carrico went a full three sets for the second straight season against the Grenaiders (2-1), but this time was unable to pull out the win, falling 6-4. 4-6, 6-3.

Senior Dakota Smith (Greenfield, Ind.) registered the third point for HC, winning the No. 5 singles contest in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

The Panthers will have one more match this fall and will host NCAA Division II institution, Bellarmine (Ky.), at 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 15.
