Panthers Shutout Defiance to Remain Perfect in HCAC Action

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Hanover College football team remained perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action as they defeated Defiance 42-0. The shutout is the second of the season for the Blue and Red.

As a team, the Panthers (5-1 overall, 3-0 HCAC) tallied 412-yards of total offense, including 222-yards through the air. Leading the charge was senior Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) with 102-yards rushing on 19 carries. The Hanover defense turned in an impressive day as they surrendered just 182-yards of total offense with five tackles for loss.

The Panthers jumped on the score board early as they took their opening drive 33-yards on eight plays for the score. The drive opened with a junior Noah Wezensky (Fort Wayne, Ind.) pass to senior Alex Fabert (Mooresville, Ind.) for a 10-yard hook up placing the Blue and Red inside the Defiance 25-yard line. The Panthers continued to drive as Coane got the call on three straight plays rushing for a combined 17-yards before getting the call on second and goal, 7-0.

After forcing another Yellow Jacket three-an-out the Panthers wasted little time finding the endzone. Wezensky led a four play 54-yard drive capped off by a completion to senior Conner Gibson (Lexington, Ky.) for another Hanover touchdown with 7:13 remaining in the first period, 14-0.
Senior AJ Breit (Lousiville, Ky.) would get the call in the second quarter under center as he took the Panthers 73-yards on nine plays for another Hanover score. The drive opened with a Breit completion to Gibson that landed HC inside Defiance territory. Coane continued his dominate day on the ground with a rush for 22-yards that set up a 1-yard rush for Breit and the touchdown, 21-0.

Hanover closed out the half with an 83-yard drive that put them on top 28-0. The score came late into the second period as senior, quarterback, Fabert put his name in the stat sheet with a 7-yard completion to junior Jared Frank (Louisville, Ky.), 28-0.

The Blue and Red carried the momentum into the second half as Breit led a charge for 76-yards that resulted in the teams fifth touchdown of the game, 35-0 before senior Jake Namisnak (Indianapolis, Ind.) tallied the game's final score with 12:01 remaining in the contest. The senior rushed ahead for 5-yards, 42-0.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 26 when they play host to Manchester. Hanover College will also be celebrating Hall of Fame Day.
