Balanced Attack Lifts Panthers Past Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Hanover College women's soccer team used a balanced attack to defeat Bluffton in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.

The Panthers (6-5-1 overall, 3-1 HCAC) were led by sophomore Anna Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Autumn Boothby (Mount Orab, Ohio) with one goal apiece. As a team, Hanover finished with a game-high 28 shots, 13 of which were on frame.

Hanover was blanked early in the first half before freshman Cleo Mills (Indianapolis, Ind.) played a ball into the box for Smith in the 13th minute for the go-ahead goal, 1-0.

The Blue and Red continued to pelt the net as back-to-back shots by Smith and sophomore Maggie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.) in the 35th minute came up empty handed. After one last stitch effort by junior Sydney Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) as time expired in the first half the Panthers took the 1-0 lead into the break.

The Panthers would deliver the games final dagger in the 89th minute as Boothby played a ball from sophomore Kelsey Hughes (Noblesville, Ind.) for the two goal victory, 2-0.

Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 as they travel to Transylvania. Kickoff is set for 7 P.M.
