Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers remain perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action as they defeated Franklin 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue and Red (5-4-1 overall, 2-0-0 HCAC) were led in the contest by Kelsey Hughes (Noblesville, Ind.) with the game-winning goal in the 96th minute. As a team, Hanover tallied a game-high 17 shots, 10 of which were on frame.
Sophomore Ruby Kate Gray (Lexington, Ky.) would strike first in the contest as she recorded her first goal of the season in the 9th minute cleaning up a deflected ball in front of frame to put the Panthers on top 1-0.
Hanover would look to extend their lead in the 14th minute as senior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) took a penalty kick that was saved by the Frnaklin keeper.
The Grizzlies took their shot at the equalizer in 31st minute as they got a free kick just outside the 18-yard box that was saved at the top of frame by sophomore, keeper, Amanda Carmosino (Noblesville, Ind.).
Franklin finally beat the Panther defense in the second half as they found the tying goal in the 66th minute knotting the contest at 1-1.
The Blue and Red looked to find the golden goal in the final seconds of regulation as senior Kayla Nowlin (Harrison, Ohio) fired off a shot that soared over the cross bar.
Hanover cranked up the intensity in the first overtime as they were able to find the golden goal in the 96th minute off a penalty kick by Hughes to capture the victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 when they welcome Earlham to campus. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
