Panthers post 7-0 victory at Oakland City

Box Score

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The Hanover men's tennis team broke from Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon, winning a road match at Oakland City (Ind.), 7-0.

The Panthers' win snaps a three-game losing skid, improving the team to 3-6 on the season. The Mighty Oaks fall to 4-11 on the campaign, also dropping a 9-0 decision to HC back in the fall.

Hanover won all three doubles matches to secure one team point heading into singles play. Juniors Jonathan Helmers (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Landon Carrico (New Albany, Ind.) cruised to a 6-0 decision at No. 2.

Also winning by a 6-0 score were freshmen Keith Asplund (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Pablo Gallart (Serrra, Spain) in the third slot. Sophomore Roger Trombley (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and freshman Connor Garrison (Louisville, Ky.) took the top spot, 6-3.

The Blue and Red also won all six singles matches in straight sets, hence the 7-0 team score. Hanover conceded two or fewer games in all 12 sets Saturday, including five set-shutouts.

Gallart, Carrico, Asplund, sophomore Jed Fajt (Greencastle, Ind.) and freshman Jed Simmons (Indianapolis, Ind.) all lost just one game in their singles matches. The group competed in the Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 spots, respectively. Helmers provided a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4.
