Boothby Nets a Career-High Two Goals as the Panthers Soar Past Spalding

Box Score

HANOVER, Ind. – Sophomore Autumn Boothby (Mount Orab, Ohio) posted a career-high two goals to lead the Panther women's soccer team past Spalding 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Panthers (3-2-1 overall) finished the contest with seven goals on a game-high 33 shots.

Hanover attacked the net early in the contest as sophomore Anna Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) played a cross in the box in the third minute that was saved by the Spalding keeper. They continued to pressure the Golden Eagle back line as Smith played a ball to Boothby that missed just left of frame.

Boothby eventually found the back of the net in the 12th minute as she beat a defender inside the 18-yard box to give the Panthers the 1-0 advantage over Spalding.

In what seemed like deja vu, senior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) connected with Boothby for her second score of the contest in the 22nd minute, 2-0.

In the second half, the Blue and Red would threaten again as Brock took a corner in the 53rd minute that found the head of Smith and landed just wide of frame. Smith would finally connect in the 54th minute as senior Lizzie Matchett (Liberty Township, Ohio) played a ball into the box for a header and goal, 3-0.

Hanover tacked on another goal in the 57th minute as senior Abby Howes (Terre Haute, Ind.) fired off a shot that was deflected off the Spalding keeper but played perfectly for the senior Kayla Nowlin (Harrison, Ohio) goal, 4-0. Smith again delt clutch late in the contest as she connected with Boothby for another Panther score, 5-0.

Sophomore Olivia Shakun (Evansville, Ind.) would get in on the action as she scored a goal in the 70th minute beating the Golden Eagle defenseman for the score.

The games final dagger came in the 88th minute when sophomore Bryn Rolfsen (Loveland, Ohio) tallied three consecutive shots before beating the Spalding goal keeper, 7-1.

The Blue and Red return to the pitch on Saturday, September 21 as they travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Capital. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
