Box Score

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College men's basketball team picked up a senior day victory over Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon that saw three players finish in double-figures. The Blue and Red defeated the Fightin' Engineers 65-55.

With the victory, Hanover secured the three seed in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament taking on Rose-Hulman Friday, February 28 in Lexington, Ky.

The Panthers (17-8 overall, 11-7 HCAC) were paced on the afternoon by senior Kevin Williams (Edinburgh, Ind.) with a game-high 20 points and five rebounds. Senior Logan Ratts (Martinsville, Ind.) chipped in 12 points while sophomore Matt Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) netted 11 points.

The contest opened with a quick three-pointer by Rose-Hulman before back-to-back deep balls from senior Blake Robertson (Greenfield, Ind.) at the 16:37 mark put the Panthers on top 6-5. But the Fightin' Engineers would regain the lead moments later as a 6-0 run sent them in front 11-6.

The hot shooting continued for Rose-Hulman as they garnered a lead of 21-14 before a pair of scores by Ratts halted the charge. The Panthers would flip the scrip at the 5:40 mark as junior Mark Albers (Pendleton, Ind.) deemed clutch hitting a jumper that gave HC the 25-24 advantage. The shot played a key part in the Panthers 12-0 run that extended the difference to 32-24. The Blue and Red would enjoy a 36-27 halftime lead following a Williams layup in the lane.

The second half opened with back-to-back scores for Rose-Hulman when Weimer provided a deep ball that pushed the Panther advantage to 10. With 12:56 remaining in the contest, the Blue and red saw their lead begin to dwindle before another clutch shot from Weimer extended the difference to 45-38.

With under 10 minutes remaining, freshman Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) would sink a three-pointer giving HC the 56-42 lead. Ratts deemed clutch down the stretch for the Blue and Red as he connected on a pair of free throws at the 5:47 mark that put the game nearly out of reach. Williams secured the victory with a layup in the paint that saw Hanover topple Rose-Hulman 65-55.

The Blue and Red return to action on Friday, February 28 as they take on Rose-Hulman in the opening round of the HCAC Tournament. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM from Lexington, Ky.
