HANOVER, Ind. - Despite an early-game scoring string, the Hanover men's lacrosse team fell to the Carthage (Wisc.) Red Men by a tally of 15-7 on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers fell to 1-2 on the year, while Carthage advanced to 4-0 on the campaign.
The Blue and Red opened up scoring in the first when sophomore Josh Perkins (San Diego, Calif.) received a pass from junior Ian Kimmins (Dayton, Ohio) en route to a goal that gave HC a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, senior Noah King (Lexington, Ky.) hit the back of the net via an assist from senior Patrick Boylston (Boca Raton, Fla.) for a score that extended a 2-0 advantage.
Junior Eric Hopkins (Evansville, Ind.) would make it a 3-0 lead on a score following King's conversion. The Red Men countered to make it 3-1, but Hanover would fire right back with two more from King and Kimmins to push a 5-1 upper hand. Carthage, though, rifled off five goals of their own to end the period, and by the quarter's end they put HC in a 6-5 hole.
The Red Men held their momentum into the second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 4-1 until the end of the half, with the lone score from senior Dallas Fonner (Evansville, Ind.). By halftime, the Blue and Red trailed by 10-6 on the scoreboard.
The third period began with a score from Boylston to close it to a 10-7 gap, but this would prove to be the Panthers' final goal of the contest, as Carthage came back by hitting the back of the net on five occasions to end the clash.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, March 4 as they play host to Trine. Game time is slated for 4:00 PM.
