Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers dominated Defiance on Saturday afternoon in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, defeating the Yellow Jackets 51-0.
With the win, Hanover moves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 HCAC and remain perfect at home.
The contest saw the Panthers score early and often as senior
Matthew Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) took the offense 57-yards on 12 plays for the score. Facing a 4th and 10 Weimer found sophomore Eric Roudebusch (New Palestine, Ind.) for the touchdown with 6:11 remaining in the opening quarter.
Hanover added another score with 2:11 to play in the opening stanza as senior
Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) found his first TD of the afternoon rushing ahead for 2-yards. The Panthers traveled 31-yards on six plays for the 14-0 advantage.
The Panthers continued to pour it on in the second stanza as the defense cranked up the intensity forcing a Yellow Jacket fumble inside their own 20-yard line. Freshman
Jayan Kent (Cedartown, Ga.) took care of the rest as he completed the scoop and score, 21-0.
Senior Walt Balilinger (Beech Grove, Ind.) joined in on the excitment as he found the endzone with 12:24 to play in the second quarter rushing forward for a 3-yard pick-up that saw HC claim the convincing 28-0. The drive saw the Panthers go 78-yards on three plays.
Hanover tacked on one final score in the opening half as Weimer piloted the offense 64-yards for a 7-yard hook-up and score. Weimer found senior
Jared Frank (Louisville, Ky.) in the back of the endzone pushing the difference to 34-0.
The second half opened with the Panther defense bringing the hammer as senior
Kiefer Askew (Warner Robins, Ga.) collected his first interception of the contest setting Hanover up with good field position. The offense handled the rest with freshman
Austin Oppel (Brandenburg, Ky.) finding the endzone on a 12-yard rush and score, 42-0.
The Panthers tacked on another rushing touchdown as freshman
Blake Huffman (Columbus, Ind.) propelled the Blue and Red to the impressive 45-0 lead.
The final score came following a pick six by freshman
Chris Forehand (Louisville, Ky.) who took it 62-yards for the score, 51-0.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when they hit the road for Bluffton. Game time is set for 1:30 PM.
