Hanover routs Anderson as part of Homecoming celebration

Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers routed Anderson on Saturday afternoon as the Blue and Red celebrated Homecoming with a convincing 49-0 victory. With the win, Hanover moved to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.

Senior Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) etched his name into the record books as he became the all-time rushing touchdown leader in Hanover College history. He finished the afternoon with 50-yards on six carriers and two touchdowns.

After a chess match for most of the first quarter the Panther offense found some life as senior Walt Ballinger (Beech Grove, Ind.) broke the scoreless contest. The senior running back took the hand off inside the 10-yard line and punched it in for seven.

The Panthers tacked on another score with 13:48 to play in the second quarter as they took the ball 55-yards on seven plays. Leading the record setting drive was the record holder himself, Coane. The senior rushed four three yards and another Hanover strike, 14-0.

The final first half touchdown came with just under six minutes to play as senior Matthew Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) piloted the offense 83-yards including a 13-yard hookup with sophomore Steven Livers (Radcliff, Ky.) for the score, 21-0.

Coane added an insurance touchdown in the third frame as he scampered for 17-yards capping off a 61-yard eight play drive for the 28-0 advantage.

The ground game remained strong as Ballinger made his second trip into the endzone. The senior pounded the ball right down the middle of the field for a 25-yard rushing score en route to the 35-0 lead.

Freshman Austin Oppel (Brandenburg, Ky.) would find the endzone on an 11-yard rush and score. Freshman Blake Huffman (Columbus, Ind.) set up the play for the Panthers as he took the ball 30-yards into the Ravens redzone. Oppell handled the rest as HC cruised to the 42-0 advantage.

Huffman provided the final blow as he was able to get around the corner and turn up field for the five-yard score.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 9 when they take on Rose-Hulman. Game time is set for 2 PM.
