HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover volleyball team claimed a thrilling Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Anderson 3-2 (25-15, 25-16, 18-25, 22-25, 17-15) to move to 14-9 overall, 5-2 HCAC.
Hanover was paced in the contest by junior
Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.) with a team-high 14 kills and a .267 hitting percentage. Senior
Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) finished the afternoon with 38 assists and 26 digs.
The opening set saw the Panthers chart a set best 14 kills for an impressive .333 hitting percentage. Hanover wasted little time pulling away as freshman
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) paced a nine point outburst from behind the service line to put HC on top 15-3. Junior
Adrianne Vance (Indianapolis, Ind.) handled the rest as she took a pass from Ketcham for the set ending kill.
Set two saw the Panthers capitalize on a pair of Raven miscues that pushed them in front 10-5. Hanover never looked back as senior
Maddie Edwards (jasper, Ind.) recorded back-to-back kills to propel HC to the 2-0 set lead. Hanover added 12 total kills on 53 total attempts.
The Panthers would surrender the next two sets before setting the stage for a five set thriller. The final set of the afternoon saw a very competitive battle with neither team giving an edge when Anderson was able to soar ahead to the 5-3 lead. But Vance had other things in mind as she teamed up with senior
Emma McPeek (North Vernon, Ind.) for back-to-back kills tying the contest at 5-5. The back-an-forth battle continued for several points when Schweitzer connected with Vance for the 15-14 advantage. The victory celebration commenced following a series of Anderson miscues that propelled HC to the win.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 27 when they take on Franklin. Game time is set for 7 PM.
