Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Panthers dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action as Rose-Hulman handed the Panthers their first HCAC loss 31-21. Hanover moves to 2-3 overall, 1-1 in HCAC action.
After a shaky opening drive the Panthers were able to settle in and provide the game's first score midway through the opening stanza. Senior
Matthew Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) paced the drive taking HC 58-yards on three plays. The big play came on a 51-yard hook-up between Weimer and senior
Jared Frank (Louisville, Ky.) who had reservations for seven.
Rose-Hulman tied the contest on their next drive as they used seven plays to travel 35-yards, 7-7.
The second quarter would see both offenses stall as neither team was able to break the scoreless tie before the intermission.
However, the Panthers came running out of the gate in the second half as Weimer tallied his second passing touchdown of the afternoon finding junior
Hunter Eads (Batavia, Ohio) for the TD. The senior delivered a 38-yard strike that hit Eads in stride giving the Blue and Red the lead with 12:25 remaining in the frame.
The Panthers added another score minutes later following a forced fumble by junior
Devonte Hardiman (Princeton, Ind.). Senior
Walt Ballinger (Beech Grove, Ind.) handled the rest as he rushed 28-yards for a Hanover score, 21-7.
The Fightin' Engineers refused to roll over as they were able to find the endzone with 6:50 to play before connecting on a 37-yard field goal that cut the difference to 21-17. They captured their first lead of the afternoon with just over 11 minutes remaining in the contest and never looked back as they claimed the 31-21 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they welcome Defiance to campus. Game time is set for 1:30 PM.
