Box Score CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Hanover men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a tight 83-81 victory at non-conference foe Wabash.
The Panthers were paced by senior
Isaac Hibbard (New Albany, Ind.) with a team-high 16 points including five rebounds and five assists.
The opening frame saw a slow start by both teams when a 7-0 Panther run paced by Hibbard propelled HC out front 25-18 with 8:47 to play. Hanover continued on the offensive attack as sophomore
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) connected for a three pointer to push HC to the 31-26 lead.
Hanover entered the break with the slim advantage as Wabash battle back using a 5-0 run in the final minute to pull within 38-35.
The second half saw Hanover increase the difference as sophomore
Matt Munoz (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit a deep ball at the 17:47 minute mark to extend the lead to 45-36. The Panther pushed the advantage to 47-37 moments later following a senior
Noah Williams (Jeffersonville, Ind.) layup, but Wabash responded pulling within 59-54 with just 6:23 remaining.
However, Hanover continued to battle as they were able to secure the season opening 83-81 victory.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, Nov. 14 when they compete at Indiana State University. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
