EMORY, Ga. – The Hanover men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Tournament Regional Championship after rallying to defeat Lynchburg in extra time, 2-1.
The Panthers were paced in the contest by freshman
Joao Domenici (Alphaville, Brazil) and senior
Fernando Martin (Sao Jose Do Rio Preto, Brazil) with one goal apiece. Hanover pelted the net with a game-high 21 shots, six of which landed on frame.
Head coach, Matt Wilkerson added this following the win " It's fun. I think we are playing at our best, it's fun to watch our guys get better every game and enjoy the postseason."
Lynchburg netted the game's first goal in the 57
th minute as they were able to beat the Panther backline for the nerve racking 1-0 lead.
However, Hanover continued on the attack as they were finally able to break the drought in the 86
th minute as Domenici played a ball from junior
Keegan Marx (Evansville, Ind.) to force extra time, 1-1.
Extra time saw the Panthers deliver as a corner kick to the 18-yard box set the stage for senior
Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.). Eppler provided a back pass that Martin fired past the keeper en route to the exciting 2-1 Tournament advancing win.
Hanover will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 3:00 PM when they take on NCAA Tournament host Emory.
