Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. – The Hanover men's soccer team defeated no. 17 ranked Emory University 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 on Sunday afternoon for the first time in program history.
The Panthers were led by sophomore
Xander Ochsner (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) with the lone goal and senior
Evan Redmon (Louisville, Ky.) with one assist.
Ochsner following the contest, "Redmon passed me the ball and as soon as it left my foot, I was like that's the one."
The opening half saw a chess battle between the two clubs as they both jockeyed for position when senior
Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.) fired a shot on frame that was saved by the Eagle keeper. Hanover held the slim 3-1 advantage in shots at the intermission.
The second half would see Ochsner deliver the game winning blow as he took a pass from Redmon in the 58
th minute. Redmon played a back ball at midfield that he was able to deliver cleanly to Ochsner for the 25-yard goal that propelled HC to their first NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance, 1-0.
Hanover finished the contest with six shots, three of which landed on frame.
The Panthers advance to take on no. 8 ranked Messiah on Friday, November 19.
