Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Panthers traveled to Lexington, Ky. on Thursday evening, dropping a heartbreaking overtime thriller with the Pioneers, 89-84.
Hanover was led in the contest by senior
Mark Albers (Pendleton, Ind.) and freshmen
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) and
Josiah Ricketts (New Harmony, Ind.) with a team-high 15 points apiece.
The early minutes of the opening half was dominated by the Pioneers as they used hot shooting to claim the early 9-2 advantage. Senior
Mark Albers (Pendleton, Ind.) halted the charge with a layup in the lane that would pull Hanover within 11-5. The Panthers claimed the advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half when they took the 12-11 lead. However, Transylvania responded with a 7-0 run that saw them flip the script.
Hanover used a surge to pull within 23-18 following a freshman
Ryan Morris (McCordsville, Ind.) jumper with just over 10 minutes to play. But it wouldn't be enough as Transylvania went on to claim the 42-32 first half lead.
The Blue and Red looked to erase the deficit in the second half as freshman
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) connected with Albers for a jumper in the lane to cut the difference. Hanover continued to chip at the lead pulling within 62-55 at the 8:40 mark. Greenamoyer delt clutch late in the half as he connected for a deep ball at the 7:45 mark to see Hanover come within six points.
The Panthers fired on all cylinders from behind the arc as freshman
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) connected for three points to knot the contest at 76-76 sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Pioneers were able to defend their home court using the deep ball to secure the 89-84 victory.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, February 13 when they welcome Transylvania to Collier Arena. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
