HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's basketball team welcomed Transylvania to Collier Arena Friday evening, falling in the contest 87-67. The Panthers move to 4-2 overall on the year.
The Panthers were led by junior
Liz Tynan (Columbus, Ind.) with a team-high 13 points and four assists. Sophomore
Callie Wilder (North Vernon, Ind.) added 12 points including a perfect mark from the free-throw line.
In the opening period, Hanover used their defense to generate their offense forcing seven Transylvania turnovers to secure the 19-17 first quarter lead. The Panthers found success at the top of the key using the mid-range jumper to break the Pioneer press. Wilder netted six first quarter points to pace the Panthers.
The second quarter saw both teams crank up the intensity as Hanover pushed their lead to 23-17 following a pair of free throws by senior
Savannah Courtney (Lawrenceburg, Ky.). However, the Pioneers responded using the deep ball to knot the contest at the midway point. Hanover continued to bring the pressure clinging to a slim 36-34 lead when a fast break layup by Wilder pushed the difference. However, Transylvania responded taking the 48-40 advantage into the break.
The Pioneers extended their lead to open the second half using a significant run to capture the 68-40 advantage with just over four minutes to play. They carried the momentum into the final period securing the 87-67 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, February 14 when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to take on Transylvania. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
