LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hanover women's basketball team traveled to Lexington, Ky. on Sunday afternoon dropping a contest with the Pioneers, 99-78.
Leading the way for the Blue and Red was senior
Savannah Courtney (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) with a team-high 22 points. Junior
Lanette Blume (St. Anthony, Ind.) added 10 points for the Panthers.
The opening period saw the Pioneers surge ahead early using a series of runs to claim the 18-8 advantage. Courtney would end the charge at the 2:44 mark as she hit a runner in the lane. Junior
Lexi Riggles (Danville, Ind.) closed out the period for Hanover with a three-pointer that pulled them within 29-19.
The second stanza would see the Pioneers extend their advantage using a 10-0 run to take the 49-27 lead when freshman
Reese Sexton (Louisville, Ky.) hit a jumper to end the run. However, Transylvania deemed too much claiming the 53-35 halftime advantage.
Hanover looked to get something going in the second half as a sophomore
Kiera McCloskey (Powell, Ohio) jumper and Blume layup pulled the Panthers within 65-48 with 3:49 to play. They continued to chip at the difference when Courtney hit a layup as time expired to cut the deficit to 75-55.
However, the Pioneers continued to fire on all cylinders capturing the 99-78 victory at home.
Hanover returns to action on Thursday, February 18 when they take on Anderson.
