LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hanover men's tennis team opened the 2021 spring season on Saturday as they traveled to Lexington, Ky. for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Invitational.
The Panthers posted a strong afternoon claiming top performances against conference opponents. In duals action, Hanover posted a 3-0 record against Anderson student-athletes, while going 4-2 against Rose-Hulman opponents and 5-3 against Transylvania.
Freshman
Joey Keal (Louisville, Ky.) found success in singles competition defeating Grant Stamper of Rose-Hulman, 7-6, 6-4. Teammate, junior
Keith Asplund (Jeffersonville, Ind.) also claimed the victory over his opponent, defeating Hart Howard of Rose-Hulman, (6-2, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8)).
Senior
Roger Trombley (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and senior
Jed Fajt (Greencastle, Ind.) also captured success in singles action. Trombley defeated Rhian Senevirante of Rose-Hulman (6-1, 6-2), while Fajt defeated Arudrra Krishnan of Rose-Hulman (4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6)).
Junior
Pablo Gallart (Serra, Spain) claimed a victory over Nick McNamee of Transylvania (6-4, 6-4). Teammates, Asplund, Trombley, junior
Connor Garrison (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman
Brandon Clunie (Niota, Tenn.) also claimed victories in singles action over Transylvania student-athletes.
In doubles action, the duo of freshman
Rodolfo Jacome (Guayas, Ecuador) and Keal claimed their match 8-4. Asplund and Gallart also claimed a victory in doubles action 8-0.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, February 28 when they travel to Wabash.
