HANOVER, Ind. – After nearly a year without lacrosse, the women's team did not disappoint. The Panthers battled Anderson in a four-overtime thriller that saw the Ravens claim the heart breaking win, 9-8.
Hanover was led in the game by freshman
Masi McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) making her college debut charting her first career hat trick. Freshman
Taylor McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) and junior
Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) both netted two goals apiece.
The opening half saw the Panthers strike first as
Masi McNally-Henriksen netted her first collegiate goal at the 29:16 mark to put HC in front 1-0.
The Ravens responded seconds later as they were able to capitalize on a free position shot, knotting the contest at 1-1. However, with 24:38 remaining in the half, the Panther offensive exploded. Junior
Milah Young (Granger, Ind.) found the first goal of the series as she propelled HC back in front 2-1.
Masi continued her dominate debut as she found the back of the net once more at the 11:42 mark pushing the Hanover difference to 3-2. Hanover stretched their lead as a
Taylor McNally-Henriksen goal pushed the difference to 4-2. The goal was the first of her collegiate career.
The Panthers added three more goals to close out the period to claim the 7-3 advantage. Hanover outshot the Ravens 17-9 in the frame.
The second half would see Anderson make a comeback as back-to-back scores pulled them within 7-5. However, junior
Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) provided the Panthers final blow at the 18:45 mark following an assist from Young.
The Ravens remained poise as they were able to tie the contest at 8-8 with just under five minutes remaining. Defense became the name of the game late as neither team was able to find the golden goal when a free position shot in the fourth overtime saw Anderson secure the season opening victory.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, March 7 when they travel to Mount St. Joseph. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
