Baseball claims split at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Hanover baseball team split at Defiance on Saturday afternoon in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. Hanover claimed game one in thrilling fashion 7-6, before dropping game two in five innings 5-4.
 
GAME ONE
Hanover struck first in the contest as sophomore Jake Brackett (Brownsburg, Ind.) singled down the left field line scoring freshman Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) for the 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
 
However, Defiance responded in the bottom of the third inning as a double to left center plated two runs pushing them in front 2-1. They tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend the difference to 3-1.
 
Junior Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.) delt clutch in the next half inning as he homered to left center scoring sophomore Cole Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind.) to knot the score at 3-3.
 
Defiance found success once more at the plate as a run in the fifth inning, one in the sixth inning and another in the seventh pushed the difference to 6-3.
 
The Panthers refused to go away using a one run eighth inning and a three run ninth to claim the HCAC victory. Sherman deemed clutch in the top of the ninth inning as he hit a solo shot before a freshman Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) double to right center plated the game tying run. Christie provided the game winning blow with an RBI single to left center, 7-6.
 
GAME TWO

Hanover plated the game's first run in the top of the first inning as Christie singled to left field scoring Littlefield, 1-0.
 
Defiance responded in the bottom of the second inning tying the contest before Littlefield went yard in the next half inning propelling HC back in front.
 
However, Defiance refused to go away as they tacked on two runs in the fourth inning reclaiming the advantage.
 
The Blue and Red added one more run in the fifth inning before the Yellow Jackets secured the victory in the bottom half of the fifth with a single to left field, 5-4.
 
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, April 11 as they compete at Manchester. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
