Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers dominated the 90
th Victory Bell Game winning their third straight, moving the overall series to 45-42-3. Hanover claimed the win, 56-21 and moved to 4-0 overall on the year.
The Panther defense set the tone early as part of the Victory Bell Game as they forced an opening drive turnover on the one-yard line.
The offense took over from there as they traveled 64-yards on 17 plays for the score with just 7:26 remaining in the opening period. Junior
Matthew Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) navigated the strike as he found senior
Jared Frank (Louisville, Ky.) on a third and seven to keep the drive alive and land HC within the Franklin 40-yard line. Senior
Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) took care of the rest as he rushed forward for the go-ahead touchdown, 7-0.
The Panthers tacked on another score early in the second quarter as Weimer and Frank connected for a 34-yard hook-up that saw the Blue and Red land inside Franklin territory. Weimer provided the blow off a nine-yard rush to the goal line, 14-0.
Hanover entered the half with the 21-14 advantage after a 12 play, 75-yard drive saw Coane record his fifth touchdown of the year.
The second half would see Hanover extend their lead as they took the opening kick-off 75-yards on nine plays for the touchdown. Senior
Walt Ballinger (Beech Grove, Ind.) provided the blow as he rushed for the one-yard score with 11:32 remaining in the quarter.
The excitement continued as part of the 90
th Victory Bell Game late into the third quarter with Weimer finding junior
Sam Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind.) for a 21-yard hook-up landing the Blue and Red at the two-yard line. Coane delivered with his second touchdown of the afternoon extending the lead to 35-14.
Frank found the endzone late in the third period as he connected with Weimer for another strike that blew the game wide open, 42-14.
Hanover would tack on two more scores in the fourth quarter with both senior
Brett Luker (New Palestine, Ind.) and Frank finding the endzone en route to the dominating Victory Bell Game win.
The Panthers close out the spring season on Saturday, April 17 when they travel to Anderson. Kick-off is set for 1:00 PM.
