HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover softball team earned the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Rose-Hulman on Thursday afternoon taking game one 5-1 before capturing game two 4-1.
GAME ONE
Hanover found themselves trailing early as Rose-Hulman plated a run in the top of the first inning following a Panther miscue, 1-0.
However, the Panthers responded in the next half inning as a sophomore
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.) triple to left center scored sophomore
Kensie Bradley (Greenfield, Ind.) tying the contest at 1-1. The Blue and Red added another run as junior
Kiley Shedron (Cloverdale, Ind.) reached on a fielder's choice that scored Hutchison.
The second inning saw the Panthers add an insurance run as senior Lilly Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) hit a shot down the left field line that plated a Hanover run, 4-1.
The final strike of the afternoon came off the bat of Hutchison who hit a single to second base scoring Bradley, 5-1.
Beurman picked up the win in the circle pitching a complete game with 11 strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Game two saw a pitcher's duel early as neither team's offense could find a rhythm when Hanover exploded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dickinson got the excitement started for the Blue and Red as she hit an RBI single to left field scoring Hutchinson, 1-0.
Senior Brittany Ralston (Lexington, Ind.) added an RBI as she reached on a Rose-Hulman miscue that saw Dickinson cross home plate. The big stick would come from senior
Rachel Cox (Indianapolis, Ind.) as she painted the left field line for a single scoring two more Panther runs en route to HCAC sweep, 4-1.
Courtney Chookie claimed the victory in the circle as she pitched five complete innings surrendering just five hits.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, April 17 when they travel to Anderson. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
