Panthers fall in HCAC action with Transylvania

Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's lacrosse team welcomed Transylvania on a rainy Wednesday evening as they dropped the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest 17-5.

The Panthers were led in the game by junior goalie Sean O'Meara (Lexington, Ky.) who tallied a game-high 14 saves. Hanover held the Pioneers to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference low 17 goals.

Transylvania dominated play early as they were able to find the back of the net just two minutes into the contest for the 1-0 advantage. They tacked on two more scores to push the difference to 3-0 before the Panthers responded.

Senior Ian Kimmins (Dayton, Ohio) delivered the first blow as he beat the Pioneer goalie to pull HC within 3-1 at the 7:15 minute mark. However, Transylvania netted four more goals to extend the difference to 7-1 through one quarter of action. Hanover finished the period with six shots, five of which landed on frame.

The Panther defense stepped up big in the second stanza as they were able to limit the Pioneers to just four goals. Freshman Cole Finley (Louisa, Va.) provided the first Panther strike of the period as he netted a goal with just under five minutes remaining, 11-2. Senior Eric Hopkins (Evansville, Ind.) dealt the final blow for the Blue and Red at the 3:20 mark. Hanover entered the half with 15 first half shots and a strong showing by O'Meara with 11 saves.

Transylvania blew the game wide open in the second half as they added a series of goals in the third period for the 16-3 advantage.

Kimmins delivered a Panther blow with just over 12 minutes remaining to cut the difference to 16-4. The final Hanover strike in the contest came from FInley as the Pioneers went on to capture the HCAC victory 17-5.
