Young leads women's lacrosse past Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Hanover women's lacrosse team traveled to Franklin on Saturday afternoon dominating the Grizzlies 18-8.

The Panthers were led in the contest by junior Milah Young (Granger, Ind.) with a game-high five goals and two assists. She finished the afternoon with 14 total shots, 12 of which landed on frame.

Franklin surged ahead early in the opening stanza before the Panthers rattled off back-to-back strikes. Young provided the first dagger off an assist from junior Britney Hernandez (Louisville, Ky.) at the 22:44 mark, 2-1.

The tie breaking goal came seconds later as junior Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) found the back of the net to knot the score at 2-2.

However, the excitement didn't last long as Franklin found another goal to reclaim the slim lead but the Panther attack prevailed. They charted four straight goals paced by Young recording a hat trick at the 10:54 mark, 7-4. Hanover carried the 7-6 lead into the break.

The second half saw the Panthers waste little time as junior Eme Edman (Niles, Mich.)  took a pass from freshman Masi McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) for a goal. The outburst continued as Young and Hernandez provided back-to-back blows pushing the difference to 10-7.

The Grizzlies provided one final goal with 21 minutes remaining before the Panther attack took over. Freshman Taylor McNally-Henriksen (Zionsville, Ind.) started the eight-goal outburst before Hernandez provided another dagger at the 14:29 mark, 12-8.

Edman charted a hat trick minutes later as she tallied back-to-back blows pushing the difference to 14-8. With 8:04 remaining senior Charlotte Verbanic (Columbus, Ind.) recorded her first goal of the afternoon extending the difference to 16-8.

The final two strikes of the afternoon came from Hernandez and Young en route to the convincing HCAC victory.
