HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover men's tennis team claimed the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Manchester 7-2 to remain perfect on the year.
The Panthers claim their first title since the 2002 season and will be the no. 1 seed in the HCAC Tournament.
The Blue and Red opened the contest sweeping doubles play as the team of junior
Keith Asplund (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and junior
Pablo Gallart (Serra, Spain) won no. 1 doubles 8-3.
The success continued as freshman
Joey Keal (Louisville, Ky.) and junior
Connor Garrison (Louisville, Ky.) won no. 2 doubles 8-3 before Hanover claimed no. 3 doubles by way of forfeit.
Senior
Roger Trombley (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) found success in singles play as he won his no. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1.
At no. 3 singles, senior
Jed Fajt (Greencastle, Ind.) captured the victory by a score of 6-0, 6-0 before freshman
Luke Kroeger (Springfield, Tenn.) claimed the Panthers final win at no. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0. Hanover won no. 6 singles by way of forfeit.
Hanover will return to action next week when they compete as part of the HCAC Tournament.
