Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's soccer team played host to a strong Ohio Northern team on Saturday afternoon, winning the competitive battle 2-0. With the victory, Hanover moves to 5-0-2 overall on the season.
The Panthers controlled the tempo early as they were able to get pressure in the box as freshman
Nora Ludwig (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed a dangerous shot on frame that missed just high.
The two teams continued the strategic chess match late into the opening stanza as Ohio Northern fired off back-to-back strikes from outside the 18 yard box that were saved by the Panther goalkeeper, sophomore
Maggie Hinegardner (Fort Thomas, Ky.).
The second half saw the Panthers break the scoreless deadlock as Ludwig played a through ball to the middle of the box that senior
Maggie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.) hammered home.
Day added an insurance goal in the 82
nd minute as senior
Autumn Boothby (Mount Orab, Ohio) sent a pass across the box for the convincing victory. The goal was the sixth of the season for Day.
Hinegardner registered a clean sheet with eight saves on 13 shots faced through 90 minutes of action.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when they open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action with Earlham. Game time is set for 5:00 PM.
