Box Score WHEATON, Ill. – The Hanover women's soccer team hit the road this afternoon taking on the the no. 8 ranked Thunder of Wheaton, tying the contest in double overtime 1-1.
Hanover was paced on the pitch by sophomore
Bri Matis (Liberty Twp., Ohio) with the lone Panther strike.
The first half saw the two teams play an even match when senior
Kelsey Hughes (Noblesville, Ind.) sent a shot on frame at the 19:24 minute mark that was saved by the Wheaton keeper. The Thunder responded moments later as they tallied back-to-back shots that went empty handed. The Panthers and Thunder entered the intermission knotted at 0-0.
The second half would see Hanover net the first blow in the 68
th minute as Matis beat the Thunder defense for the go-ahead goal, 1-0.
However, the no. 8 ranked Wheaton Thunder responded with a goal of their own to force extra time.
Extra time would see both team's step-up big as it turned into a defensive battle with neither team giving an edge resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 5 when they welcome Trine to the Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
